During his daily commute, Ed, one of our product designers, watched as a fleet of earth moving equipment was slowly assembled on a large piece of property on the edge of town. Over the course of several days he observed a number of scrapers and a noticeably large dozer were delivered to the site. With his interest piqued he took his foot off the gas long enough one day on his way home to identify the tractor. To his shock and surprise it was a D11T.
When he told us about what he had seen the next morning, he was greeted with open skepticism.
Comments ranged from, “You must be seeing things” to “There are no D11T’s working in Oregon” and the semi-informed, “They’re building a school out there, not a mine.”
As it turned out, Kerr Construction, who in the past has let us photo and measure their equipment for our models, was in charge of the earth work on the new school site. A couple of phone calls later, Ed and Gary had a date to the see D11T in person.
After verifying with the general contractor’s crew that they were properly attired, they met the job superintendent who walked them out to see the D11T at work. The timing couldn’t have been better as they arrived just in time to watch it tow a CAT 633D elevated scraper out of a bowl where it had been removing dirt. It seemed the machine had gotten stuck with its pan down and was going nowhere under its own power. The D11T took it all in stride and didn’t so much as flinch as it towed the 50 tons of dead weight back to the staging area.
Over the next few months we’ll be watching more than 350,000 yards of material being moved on the site in preparation for the construction of a 320,000 square feet high school. When completed, it will be the largest in the state with a capacity of more than 2,200 students.
And while we have your attention, check out our upcoming D10T2 here. It’s not a D11T, but with fewer than 100 of these models remaining, you need to be sure to get one requested before they are all spoken for by others.
I have been waitingfor the d 10to b realised and would like to b notified when their available
We have a few D11T’s operating in central PA. Watched them assemble a new one a few years ago.
