Caterpillar supplied CCM access to the Caterpillar proving grounds in Tucson, Arizona to ensure every possible detail was included on the 797 model. All of the nuts and bolts are visible on this model and all of the measurements are accurate. Each is constructed entirely of investment cast and etched brass parts and is built to exact 1:87 scale. Every model is hand-assembled and hand-painted in authentic colors and markings. The 797 model is museum quality and demonstrates the highest levels of the model building art. Each features a detailed cab, twin body hoists to raise and lower the dump box and authentic rubber tires.

With an operating weight of 1,314,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 360 tons, the Caterpillar 797 Mining Truck is the largest Mining Truck in the world. The 797 is powered by a 24 cylinder diesel engine that produces an amazing 3,400 gross horsepower. The truck measures 23 feet from the road to the top of truck bed and almost 50 feet in length. Eight onboard computers monitor, among other things, oil pressure, transmission torque, engine performance and tire temperature.
