Introduced in 1978, the Cat 988B was designed with productivity in mind. Built to be tough and dependable, this rugged machine is perfectly suited for shot rock, stripping overburden, charging hoppers, excavating and stockpiling. The 988B is an excellent match to the 769 Off-Highway truck.
The entire front end was redesigned from the 988 with a simplified, Z-bar loader linkage and lift arms, allowing for faster and fuller bucket loads. With a rated load capacity of 21,000 lbs, the 988B can be equipped with choice of bucket depending on the application.
Producing 375HP at the flywheel, the Cat 3408 turbocharged diesel is equipped with a planetary, powershift transmission which features 4 forward and 4 reverse gears and is capable of up to 22.5 MPH forward and 25.7 MPH in reverse.
