The Cat 660 Coal Hauler featured a 550hp diesel engine connected to a Caterpillar power shift transmission that enabled the 660 to pull up to 100 tons of material. Bringing the machine to a safe stop were air-actuated, cam-operated brakes with standard hydraulic retarder and emergency braking systems. The coal hauler featured a modified “clam style” bottom doors that permitted a low, wide trailer with a 12’6″ loading height. The low body profile contributed to a low center of gravity and a high degree of stability.
