TD40 is co-op project of Polish company Huta Stalowa Wola and American International Harvester. Stalowa Wola bought license for smaller models of IH dozers (TD-15, TD-20 and TD-25), tracked loader 175 and pipelayers. They also start co-op to design TD-40, 500 hp dozer and planed TD-50 with 750 hp, also 100 ton pilepayer SB-85, and planed making 250 units per year. However, the saddest thing as a result of of the political and economic crisis (financial problems of International Harvester in the 1980’s, martial law in Poland in 1981-1983) they must they had to give up an ambitious project od TD-50 and 100 tons pipelayer SB-85, and in a poorer version, with several years delay start making TD-40 in 1984, and in the maximum amount 50 units per year. Fortunately Dressta (it is short for Dresser and Stalowa Wola- american investor, polish maker) still exist and make dozers, what they are known all over the world and have a generally good reputation.
